PRUShoppe offers a bundled PRULife Your Term (PYT) plan at various coverage levels. PRULife Your Term is a yearly renewable and convertible term plan that provides death coverage. This plan’s basic coverage is enhanced by the following benefits:

  • Accidental Death and Disablement (ADD)
  • Accelerated Total and Permanent Disability (TPD)
  • Waiver of Premium due to Total and Permanent Disability (WPTPD)

1. Product benefits:

Death Benefit

Lump sum benefit equal to the plan’s sum assured less any accelerated benefits already paid, if death of the Life Insured occurs before the Policy Expiry Date.

Accidental Death and Disablement (ADD)

Additional cash benefit if the Life Insured dies due to accident within one hundred eighty (180) days from occurrence of the accident, and the accident occurs before the Policy Anniversary immediately following the seventy-third (73rd) birthday of the Life Insured or before the benefit’s expiry date. This also provides a specified percentage of the ADD benefit if the Life Insured sustains bodily injury which results in any of the losses listed in the Schedule of coverage* below within one hundred eight (180) days from occurrence of the accident before the Policy Anniversary immediately following the seventy-third (73rd) birthday of the Life Insured.

Accelerated Total and Permanent Disability (ATPD)

Advances 50% of the base plan’s sum assured in case the Life Insured becomes Totally and Permanently Disabled due to bodily injury or disease before the Policy Anniversary immediately following the seventieth (70th) birthday of the Life Insured or before the benefit’s expiry date.

Waiver of Premium due to Total and Permanent Disability (WPTPD)

Waives all future regular premiums if the Life Insured becomes totally and permanently disabled due to injury or disease before the Policy Anniversary immediately following his sixtieth (60th) birthday.

3. Eligibility requirements

The PRULife Your Term packages offered through PRUShoppe are available to individuals who meet all of the following requirements:

a. Must be 18 to 60 years old at the time of application

b. Filipino citizen residing in the Philippines at the time of purchase

c. Must own a credit or debit card (Visa/MasterCard)

d. First time to purchase a life insurance in PRUShoppe

e. Policyowner must also be the Life Insured

4. Exclusions

These are conditions whereby rider benefits are not due or payable while the policy is in force. These are enforceable even after the contestability period.

4.1 Accidental Death and Disablement (ADD)

Accidental Death and Disablement benefit will not be paid if the death, loss or disablement is sustained or contracted, in whole or in part, in any of the following circumstances:

a. by intentional self-inflicted injury, suicide, or any attempt threat, while sane or insane;

b. by war, invasion, act of foreign enemy, hostilities or warlike operations (whether war be declared or not), mutiny, riot, civil commotion, strike, civil war, rebellion, revolution, insurrections, conspiracy, military or usurped power, martial law or state of siege, or any of the events or causes which determine the proclamation or maintenance of martial law or state of siege, seizure, quarantine, or nationalization by or under the order of any government or public or local authority;

c. by murder or any attempt thereof or assault provoked by the Life Insured;

d. by any weapon or instrument employing atomic fission, thermonuclear fusion or any form of radiation, whether in time of peace or war;

e. by congenital anomalies and conditions arising therefrom;

f. by pregnancy and resulting childbirth, miscarriage or abortion;

g. by cosmetic or plastic surgery, except as a result of injury;

h. while the Life Insured is in active service in the armed forces of any country or any international authority. In such an event, upon written notification by the Life Insured, we shall return the pro rata premium for any such period of service;

i. while in any attempted commission of, or willful participation by the Life Insured in any crime punishable under any prevailing law or ordinance of the Philippines or of any country in which the crime was attempted or committed;

j. while resisting lawful arrest;

k. while entering, leaving, operating, servicing, or being in, on, or about any aerial or submarine device or conveyance except as specifically provided herein;

l. by medical and surgical treatment except as may be necessary solely as a result of injury;

m. by dental care or surgery except on natural teeth as occasioned by injury;

n. while under the influence of alcohol or unprescribed drugs;

o. by alcoholism or drug addiction;

p. by disease, bacterial infection or out of or consequent upon or contributed to by AIDS or AIDS-related complex (ARC);

q. by hernia, ptomaine, or other bacterial infections which are not pyogenic infections occurring at the same time with or because of any accidental cut or wound;

r. by circumcision, sterilization, artificial insemination, sex transformation, diagnosis and treatment of infertility;

s. by mental or nervous disorders;

t. by poison, gas, or fumes voluntarily or involuntary taken;

u. by automobile and motorcycle racing, judo, karate and similar martial arts, scuba diving, hang-gliding, sky diving, bungee jumping, and any other dangerous sport;

v. by homicide or any attempt thereof, or physical injuries, occasioned by a provocation from the Life Insured; or

w. while the Life Insured is driving or riding a motorcycle as a passenger, except when such is part of his employment or profession, as declared in the insurance application.

4.2 Accelerated Total and Permanent Disability (ATPD)

The Accelerated Total and Permanent Disability benefit will not be paid if the disability is sustained in any of the following circumstances:

a. pregnancy, childbirth, or abortion or miscarriage or complication thereof;

b. psychiatric disorders, drug or alcohol abuse;

c. injuries or illness due to military service or suffered under conditions of war whether declared or not, insurrection, rebellion, or mutiny;

d. intentional self-inflicted injuries or illness caused by attempts at suicide, or incurred as a result of or while participating in the commission of a crime;

e. engaging or taking part in driving or riding in any kind of race, professional sports or hazardous sports, underwater activities involving the use of breathing apparatus, flying or aerial activities other than as fare-paying passenger; or

f. disease, Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) or AIDS-related Complex (ARC).

4.3 Waiver of Premium due to Total and Permanent Disability (WPTPD)

Future premiums will not be waived if the disability is sustained in any of the following circumstances:

a. pregnancy, childbirth, or abortion or miscarriage or complication thereof;

b. psychiatric disorders, drug or alcohol abuse;

c. injuries or illness due to military service or suffered under conditions of war whether declared or not, insurrection, rebellion, or mutiny;

d. intentional self-inflicted injuries or illness caused by attempts at suicide, or incurred as a result of or while participating in the commission of a crime;

e. engaging or taking part in driving or riding in any kind of race, professional sports or hazardous sports, underwater activities involving the use of breathing apparatus, flying or aerial activities other than as fare-paying passenger; or

f. disease, Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) or AIDS-related Complex (ARC).

5. Other benefits

a. Renewability

The policy may be renewed annually until age 89 without submitting proof of good health. Premiums on the renewed Policy shall be based on the attained age as of the last birthday of the Life Insured at the date of renewal.

b. Convertibility

As early as the second (2nd) policy year, the policy may be converted to any of Pru Life UK’s insuravest plans (investment-linked life insurance), or whole life or endowment products available during time of conversion, without submitting proof of good health.

c. Reinstatement

If the policy terminates due to non-payment of premiums, the Policyowner may apply for reinstatement within five (5) years from the due date of the premium in default. The Life Insured must also provide satisfactory evidence of good health at his/her expense.

6. Free Look Period

This is a fifteen (15) day period from policy delivery date in which the Policyowner can review the policy. If the policyowner cancels the policy within this period, the premium paid will be refunded in full.

7. Suicide Clause

Suicide by the Life Insured within the first two (2) years from the Policy Effectivity Date or from the date of last reinstatement, if any, shall not be compensable. However, suicide committed in a state of insanity shall be compensable regardless of date of commission.

In case of suicide by the Life Insured within the first two (2) years from the effective date of any increase in Sum Assured, the increase in Sum Assured shall not be payable unless suicide was committed in a state of insanity.

Where suicide is not compensable, our liability shall be limited to the return of premiums paid.

8. Contestability

Except for non-payment of premiums or any other grounds recognized by law and jurisprudence, we cannot contest the policy after it has been in force during the lifetime of the Life Insured for two (2) years from Policy Effectivity Date or from the date of last reinstatement, if any.

Where the Death Benefit is not compensable, our liability shall be limited to the return of premiums paid.

9. Conditions for the Termination of the Policy

The policy will terminate upon the occurrence of any of the following:

a. death of the Life Insured;

b. non-payment of premium due within the grace period;

c. the policy reaches its Policy Expiry Date, unless the premium for the next renewal period has been paid;

d. the policy anniversary immediately preceding the ninetieth (90th) birthday of the Life Insured; or

e. upon written request of termination by the Policyowner, whichever happens first.

10. Conditions for the Termination of Riders

10.1 Accidental Death and Disablement

The Accidental Death and Disablement benefit will terminate upon the occurrence of any of the following:

a. on the policy anniversary immediately following the seventy-third (73rd) birthday of the Life Insured;

b. in the event of death of the life insured;

c. when the policy to which this benefit is attached is no longer in force; or

d. upon written request for termination, whichever happens first.

10.2 Accelerated Total and Permanent Disability

The Accelerated Total and Permanent Disability benefit will terminate upon the occurrence of any of the following:

a. on the policy anniversary immediately following the seventieth (70th) birthday of the Life Insured;

b. in the event of death of the life insured;

c. when the policy to which this benefit is attached is no longer in force; or

d. upon written request for termination, whichever happens first.

10.3 Waiver of Premium due to Total and Permanent Disability

The Waiver of Premium due to Total and Permanent Disability benefit will terminate upon the occurrence of any of the following:

a. on the policy anniversary immediately following the sixtieth (60th) birthday of the Life Insured, if no claim was made before age sixty (60)

b. on the policy anniversary immediately following the ninetieth (90th) birthday of the Life Insured if a claim was made before age sixty (60);

c. in the event of death of the life insured

d. when the policy to which this benefit is attached is no longer in force; or

e. upon written request for termination by the Policyowner, whichever happens first.

11. Definition of Terms

a. Accident – means any unintentional, unforeseen or unexpected event which directly causes an injury

b. Activities of Daily Living – shall mean any of the following:

b.1 Continence – The ability to voluntarily control bowel or bladder functions or to clean up or perform external care of a catheter of appliance.

b.2 Dressing – The ability to put on or take off garments and/or medical appliances usually worn with or without the use of modified clothing or adaptive devices such as tape fastener or zipper pulls.

b.3 Bathing – The ability to wash oneself completely in the bath or shower or by other means to maintain personal hygiene with or without the aid of special equipment or adapted services.

b.4 Feeding – The ability to take any form of nourishment once it has been prepared and made available with or without use of adaptive utensils.

b.5 Mobility – The ability to move from one room to an adjoining room or from one side of a room to another. If a person can move with the help of equipment such as cane, walker, crutches, grab bars or other support devices, then he or she will be considered mobile.

b.6 Transferring – The ability to move in or out of a chair, including wheelchair, bed or other stationary position, or to walk.

c. Benefit Expiry Date – refers to the date at which the rider benefits expire, assuming that the policy and/or the rider(s) is/are renewed yearly based on the maximum years applicable. This will be indicated in the Policy Data Page.

d. Grace Period – means the period of thirty-one (31) days after the premium due date, where premium payment is allowed without interest charge.

e. Injury – means bodily injury caused by accident, directly and independently of all other causes, and which is evidenced by a visible contusion on the exterior of the body except in the case of drowning or of internal injury revealed by an autopsy.

f. Life Insured – refers to the person being covered by the insurance policy

g. Our/We – refers to Pru Life Insurance Corporation of U.K.

h. Policyowner – refers to the person who owns the insurance policy. For Pru Life Your Term policies applied through PRUShoppe, the policyowner is always the same as the Life Insured.

i. Policy Anniversary – means the same day and month the policy becomes effective in each succeeding calendar year

j. Policy Expiry Date – means the policy anniversary immediately following the Life Insured’s ninetieth (90th) birthday

k. Policy Year – means a period of twelve (12) months from the Policy Effectivity Date or an anniversary thereof

l. Premium – refers to the amount the Life Insured pays for the insurance policy

m. Total and Permanent Disability – means the Life Insured is prevented from engaging in any occupation or from performing any work for compensation of profit, if the Life Insured is working at the time of disablement or disability. The disability must be present and must have existed continuously for not less than six (6) consecutive months.

If the Life Insured is not working at the time of disablement, disability is considered total and permanent when the Life Insured is permanently unable to undertake without assistance three (3) or more activities of daily living.
